Alicia Alonso — prima ballerina assoluta en directeur van het Nationaal Ballet van Cuba — erkende de artistieke excellentie van het Conjunto Folklórico de Oriente (opgericht in 1959) en het creatieve werk van zijn artistiek leider Antonio Pérez Martínez (1951), choreograaf van iconische producties binnen de Cubaanse dans- en podiaan cultuur, waaronder Yemayá, El Pescador en El Awuaró de Iroko.

Alicia Alonso — prima ballerina assoluta and director of the National Ballet of Cuba — recognized the artistic excellence of the Conjunto Folklórico de Oriente (founded in 1959) and the creative work of its artistic director, Antonio Pérez Martínez (1951), choreographer of iconic productions within Cuban dance and performing arts, including Yemayá, El Pescador and El Awuaró de Iroko.

In the latter production, in the early 1990s in Santiago de Cuba, the young composer Jorge Martínez Galán contributed his musical work to a creative process that would later become part of the cultural and artistic heritage of Cuban folklore. This experience marked an early chapter in a career spanning more than thirty years, with an extensive body of compositions, productions, and achievements that will soon be presented to international audiences.
